How Escrow Protects Global Trade

A simple guide to milestone payments for importers and exporters.

Escrow is a simple idea that solves a hard problem in trade: how do a buyer and a seller who don't know each other exchange money and goods safely? A neutral third party holds the funds and releases them only when agreed conditions are met.

The trust gap

Sellers don't want to ship before they're paid. Buyers don't want to pay before they receive goods that match the order. Paying 100% up front puts all the risk on the buyer; shipping on credit puts it on the seller. Escrow removes the standoff.

How milestone escrow works

Funds are deposited with a licensed escrow provider and released in stages tied to real events:

  • Deposit on agreed order terms
  • Release a portion at production or pre-shipment inspection
  • Release on shipment with valid documents (e.g. bill of lading)
  • Final release on confirmed delivery

What to check

Good escrow is provided by a licensed, regulated partner, with clear conditions and dispute handling. Imponexpo's milestone payments are planned through licensed partners and are not live during pre-launch.

Imponexpo is in pre-launch — no live orders, payments or escrow are available yet. This resource is a preview to help you prepare.
